2025: CELEBRATING 35 YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY
Access Creative College, a prominent music and arts college, commissioned Contact One to fit out a shell-and-core section of a building undergoing a full refurbishment. Their key objective was to transform an open, blank-canvas space into a functional, inspiring educational environment tailored to creative arts activities.
The project required converting the shell-and-core space into a fully equipped learning and creative facility, incorporating a new HVAC system, upgraded electrical and lighting, purpose-built recording studios, dedicated gaming rooms, modern classrooms and WCs. The design also called for bespoke joinery and cladding to add character, along with speed gates to create a secure, professional entrance.
Work was carried out alongside another contractor completing extensive building works, with restricted access requiring careful coordination throughout the project.
The project was delivered over a 16-week programme. Sheila Bird worked with Access Creative to establish the overall design intention, which we then developed into a fully detailed construction plan. As work progressed, we accommodated a number of design changes, integrating these without disrupting the schedule. Restricted access to the site required ongoing, detailed coordination with the client, designers, and other contractors to sequence activities effectively and maintain progress throughout the build.
The completed fit-out matched the design intention, with the finished space making a strong visual impact. High-quality finishes and detailing created an engaging and practical environment for students, reflecting the creative focus of the college.
